Early in the morning you will leave from Cusco in our bus and travel towards Pisaq where we will have breakfast (not included). Afterwards we’ll continue towards Paucartambo. Here, we’ll have a small city tour to discover this charming colonial town, famous for its folkloric traditions. Once in Acjanaco (3560 m), the entrance to Manu National Park, our guide will explain us everything about the Reserve, including rules and characteristics. From this point, we’ll start to descend through the Cloud Forest, an amazing ecosystem where we’ll admire plenty of orchids, heliconias and primitive ferns. As well, we’ll observe several kinds of birds like the variable hawk, many types of flycatchers, crested oropendolas and, with some luck, the Mountain Caracara, the Amazonian Umbrella bird and some quetzals. On the way, we’ll also make a stop to observe the beautiful Cock of the Rock, Peru’s national bird. We’ll spend our first night in T’ikari Lodge, situated in the village of Chonta Chaka. According to weather conditions, we might decide to spend the night in another lodge, located in the village of Pilcopata. Note: sightings of animals and birds depends greatly on weather conditions.

After a delicious breakfast we’ll leave the lodge and continue our journey towards Puerto Atalaya. On the way, we’ll make a stop in the village of Pilcopata. We’ll have a walk for about 2 hours to observe the flora and fauna. We’ll also stop in some local plantations to observe and learn more about jungle agricultural products like coca, yuca and different kinds of tropical fruits. In Atalaya, we’ll take our boat 30 minutes by Alto Madre de Dios River to our typical lodge, Paititi Lodge, with showers and toilets available. Once there, we can go to a natural pool to enjoy a moment of relaxation. After lunch we’ll take our boat again to reach the Machuwasi Lake. After approximately 20 minutes by boat, we’ll walk for about 1 hour through the jungle observing plants and looking for animals. Once we arrive to the Lake, we’ll get on a wooden raft and cross the little Lake looking for the hoatzin, a prehistorical bird which can still be found in some parts of the jungle. We’ll also make another walk closed to the lake to look for more birds and animals and to learn more about Amazonian plants. After this trip, we’ll walk back to the river and from there we’ll return to our lodge by boat. At our lodge, we’ll enjoy a delicious dinner. Don’t hesitate to talk with your guide about a night walk to look for caimans! Night in the Lodge. Daily activities may change depending on weather conditions.

Very early in the morning we will travel by boat for approximately 25 minutes to a parrot clay lick, where we can see green parrots, macaws and, if we’re lucky also some other birds or small animals. After that, we’ll go back to the lodge to have breakfast. Afterwards we’ll start a 2 hours hike to reach the top of a hill from where we’ll have an amazing view on the jungle, the river Alto Madre de Dios River and some villages. On the way to the top our guide we’ll show us incredible plants and original insects. If we’re lucky, we might see some monkeys. On the top of the hill we’ll have a snack before starting a 2 hours descent that will take us back to the lodge. There, we’ll have lunch. In the afternoon we can decide to have a rest or to go for another walk to look for more animals. Night in the Lodge.

After a delicious breakfast unfortunately it will be time to return to Cusco: first by boat to the port Atalaya, and then by bus to return to Cusco and Loki. On the way back, if time and climate allow us, we can make another walk in the cloud forest to have our last chance to see some animals. Our journey back to Cusco will last the whole day and we’ll be back in the Inca Capital City about 6-7 pm.

**NOTE: The order of the activities mentioned in this program may change according to weather conditions. In the Jungle the climate is highly unpredictable, especially during rainy season, and weather conditions may affect the program as the animals as well are affected in their daily activities by the rain. Don’t hesitate to talk with your guide about it to maybe change the order of the activities or find alternative things to do in case of extremely bad weather! And remember, we have no responsibilities on climate and on the amount of animals that you will see: enjoy the jungle and good luck!

Due to unreliable departure dates we are not accepting online bookings for MANU.  We HIGHLY recommend booking a Tambopata Puerto Maldonado Tour as it is easier to access the area and has more reliable departure dates.
