CUSCO VISIT TO LOCAL COMMUNITY

WEDNESDAY, 10, FEBRUARY, 2010

Yesterday the some of the Loki Cusco Hostel team visted some of the surrounding areas around Cusco to see first hand the damage done by the floods. The local Peruvian Civil Defence has provided a limited number of basic shelter, which are small tents, and basic medical care. This is vitally important as people in these small Andean towns have lost livelhoods as well as homes. Over the next week Loki Cusco will be organising a number of fund raising events to raise money to help with this relief program. We are also accepting, food, clothes and anything that will assist with the relief effort. If you are interested in volunteering to help in the relief effort contact us via [email protected] or COME TO CUSCO. Bus transfers to and from Cusco are running normally as well as all scheduled flights. This is a unique opportunity to give something back to the local community. To see pictures from yesterdays visit, use the following linkhttp://www.lokihostel.com/en/online/loki-photos/show_set/22

CUSCO UPDATE, AVAILABLE TOURIST OPTIONS AND VOLUNTEERING

WEDNESDAY, 10, FEBRUARY, 2010

Last night at roughly 10pm local time, the Peruvian Police reported that they had airlifted all of the tourists from Aguas Calientes. There are reports saying that the rail link to Machu Picchu could be closed for the next 3 months, but alternative routes should be opening over next few weeks as repairs progress.

Loki Hostel will remain in contact with local tour agencies to see when Machu Picchu will be open again. Currently there are still biking, rafting and quad bike tours available and within the next few days the Inka Jungle trek will restart.

Some of the Loki Hostel Cusco team are visiting the rural areas of Cusco today to survey the damage and get an idea of the help that we can provide. There is also a tent being constructed in the hostel where guests can donate items of food and clothing. Once a location has been decided, we will begin developing a more concrete aid plan whereby guests staying with us can volunteer to help the victims of this disaster.

We will update on the situation daily, so watch this space for more news

STATE OF EMERGENCY IN CUSCO

WEDNESDAY, 10, FEBRUARY, 2010

Due to the heavy rains that have been falling in recent days, there are significant problems in the Cusco region and routes to Machu Picchu are currently blocked. There will be no tours or treks leaving for the Sacred Valley or Machu Picchu for what looks like at least 3 days. The Peru rail lines are currently blocked but repairs are being conducted, with a view that if the rain stops and the lines are cleared train services can resume. At Loki Hostel in Cusco, all other trips and tours sold by the tour desk at this stage will still be running and we will be accepting reservations and guests as normal. We will also be raising funds from our Pub Quiz in the hostel this week, to support locals who have lost their homes and crops as a result of the weather problems. GUEST SUGGESTED IMPROVEMENTS UPDATED

FRIDAY, 05, FEBRUARY, 2010

Hey everyone,

Since we implemented the electronic feedback forms for all our guests we have been stunned with the amount of positive comments and feedback that we have received. Sprinkled in amongst the feedback were some great suggestions that we have collated. Over the coming weeks and months the following improvements and additions will be made to Loki La Paz based on your feedback.

  • A discreet but effective glass wall will insulate our Quiet Zones from our common areas and bar even more.
  •  ( View picture of work at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=327116&id=678635017&l=2281c11c5c)
  • IMPLEMENTED

  • Quiet Zone Light Boxes will demonstrate these areas even more clearly.
  •
  • As well as our existing long term storage areas we will be implementing an easily accessible and secure short term storage  .
  •
  • We intend to trial test a non smoking section in the bar. Our TV room and Oxygen Bar are currently non smoking.
  • IMPLEMENTED

We will be posting photos and more commentaries about these works as they progress.

If you have any other suggestions and/or comments please email me directly at [email protected]
